The engine of the XR is its heart and soul. Based on the high-performance powerplant of its renowned cousin, the S1000 RR, this inline, four-cylinder marvel was optimized for uncompromising long-distance performance with, among other things: special camshaft profiles and designated manifolds to deliver impressive torque from the middle and the widest usable speed range in its class. Cosmetically, there is only one issue to report – and it’s not a serious one. There are a few small tip-over scratches visible on the right-side, lower bodywork (see photo closeup). Other than that, you will see only nominal signs of gentle use which, thanks to our pro detailer, have been erased to the point of near invisibility. The bike is just short of immaculate. Mechanically, on the other hand, this machine IS immaculate. Our Service Department pros examined and evaluated every component and function to verify performance, safety, and spec compliance. All fluids were changed, and performance adjustments made as needed. Last year, new tires (Michelin Power Road 5 – nitrogen filled for maximum performance and wear benefits) were installed and they still have most of their wear-life left to give. The bike got an extended, critical test ride, and passed the tough Maryland Safety Inspection, too. Blue Ribbons on every level!
