Veterans Day Tribute: Mort Henig

Mort Henig served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 and was stationed in Japan after completing basic training. His strong organizational abilities, process management expertise, and exceptional people skills earned him a position at General Douglas MacArthur’s headquarters, where he managed the supply room operations for most of his service. 

Following his military service and college education, Mort dedicated 33 years to the federal government as an auditor and manager with the General Accounting Office. During his tenure, he audited numerous military bases around the world, NASA’s Mercury and Apollo missions, public infrastructure projects such as the design and construction of the Interstate 495 Capital Beltway, and many other key and interesting government departments and programs.

Nearly 98 years old now, Mort enjoys life in his senior living community in Columbia, MD, walking his 5,000 steps a day, reading, watching sports on TV, and spending time with family members Bob and Suzanne Henig.
