Meet Your WRWR Host

Meet Your WRWR Host

Back

This Saturday (before the snow arrives!), January 24th, the 2026 Women Riders World Relay (WRWR) will be traveling through Maryland with a pitAmy Friends stop at Bob's to officially pass the traveling baton forward to any woman rider interested in being part of history! Please join us!

WRWR is on a mission to connect all women riders around the world and Bob’s is lucky enough to have one of our staff members very interested in helping to accomplish this mission and who will be our host on Saturday! Her name is Amy Friends (left in picture).

Amy began her motorcycle journey long before she ever owned a bike. Drawn to two wheels from an early age, she fully committed when she finally started riding in 2014. Her first motorcycle was a 2014 Triumph Bonneville, and today she rides (you guessed it...) two BMWs: a 1993 BMW R100R named Kestrel and a 2010 BMW F650GS known as Happy Quinn.

Amy serves as the Southeast Regional Representative for WIMA USA (Women's International Motorcycle Association, US Chapter) and is also the organization's webmaster. She is an active member of BMW MOA, BMW RA, BMW Airheads, and countless women riders Facebook groups.

Amy witnessed the WRWR’s conception in real time when the idea first surfaced in a Facebook Group. She watched as founder Hayley Bell took the reins and began planning the record-breaking relay. When the event was formally announced, Amy immediately joined and invited her friend Julie to ride alongside her! Together, in 2019, they helped carry the physical baton from New York to Ohio, marking Amy's longest motorcycle journey to date.

2026 WRWRFast forward to 2026, Amy and Julie once again teamed up to go to Arkansas for the 2026 WRWR USA kickoff. They returned with the now digital baton and are ready to pass it along this Saturday. Because Julie is unable to be with us on Saturday, we want to take a moment to share a little bit about her motorcycling journey as well!

Julie’s first bike was a 1986 Honda Rebel 450cc. Today she rides a 2015 BMW G650GS, 2017 BMW R1200R, 2022 KTM 790 Adventure, and a 2015 Kawasaki Vulcan 650S. Over the years Julie has dedicated time to continue improving her skill set, taking courses including MotoMark1, Zacker Adventures, Bret Tkacs, SheADV@DirtDaze, the motorcycle mechanics certificate from Prince George’s Community College, ProRider (with Amy!), and an MSF refresher course.

Julie met Amy in 2018 (at Bob’s!) when Elspeth Beard came to the dealership to share her epic journey and stories with riders. From then Amy and Julie began riding together. When Amy found about WRWR she reached out to Julie and together they made a 5-day trip out of it that cemented an awesome friendship! When the 2026 rally was announced it only made sense to take part again TOGETHER!

It is stories like these that we hope to hear about on Saturday, and/or to be the beginning to many more stories like these.

Despite the snowstorm forecasted, it is our hope to have a showroom filled with riders to cheer on women riders around the world. Let’s empower these women to keep the movement strong and moving forward!

We have some motorcycle trivia planned, light refreshments, prizes to win and the coolest part of the day will be a visit to Bob’s BMW Motorcycle Museum where you will see a replica of the Elspeth Beard Bike, autographed by Elspeth, along with over 100 other iconic and historic BMW machines, countless motorcycle collectibles, pieces of motorcycle art, and so much more!

After gathering at the dealership and visiting Bob's BMW Motorcycle Museum, anyone interested in grabbing lunch can join us at one of our favoriteWRWR App local spots! While RSVPing is not required, it is very helpful for us to plan so please do so!

Fun Fact. Did you know Bob’s was a checkpoint in one of 2019 WRWR Ripple relays (a series of offshoot motorcycle rides which allowed women who were not near the main WRWR route, or unable to participate in the main event, to be involved in the worldwide celebration) from Maryland over to friends that came down from New Jersey (pictured below)? We expect some of these same women to be at Bob’s on Saturday!
