Here's a classic 1986 BMW K100RS PROJECT BIKE that has the potential to become someone's pride and joy… but only after it gets some long-overdue maintenance attention. It's got some rough spots for sure, mostly because of too many years of neglect. But we know that there are several rider/enthusiasts out there who LOVE the work of rescuing abandoned bikes like this one. It's like a calling for some. Well, if you're the one hearing that call, start by calling 1-888-269-2627 to get more information. Ask to speak with one of our Certified Sales Advisors — Jim, Yale, Austin, or Todd. Call TODAY!

As with all PROJECT BIKES we want buyers to know as much as possible about the bike before making a purchase. We’ve nothing to hide and our only goal is that each new owner feels they paid fairly and got good VALUE. We encourage you to call, schedule a time to meet with one of our sales advisors, and inspect the machine in person to fully understand all the positives as well as the potential downsides involved in the refurbishing process. This bike was brought to Bob's for storage in April, 2020. (The bike was then already in the condition it is in now.) Later the storage payments stopped coming and we were never able to contact the individual who brought it in despite repeated attempts. (Rumor has it that he was beamed up to an alien spacecraft and never seen again.) Luckily, though, we were able to obtain a clear Maryland title for resale!

Here is what else we know about this K100RS  PROJECT BIKE
• The brakes do not work. Undoubtedly, it will need to have work done on the master cylinders. Additionally, all the brake pads need to be replaced, and all three brake rotors appear to be below required spec and will most likely need to be replaced.

• The bike has no battery. The switches move freely, but without a battery, we cannot test and verify their functioning.

• The entire fuel delivery system is highly suspect and will undoubtedly need work and most likely some critical parts will need replacing. This is typical of vehicles stored for several years when proper precautions were not taken.

• The tires have about 50% of remaining tread and the sidewalls look good, but they are old. For that reason alone, we'd recommend replacement.

• The right-side mirror housing does not stay attached to the fairing body. It's possible that some adjustment/tightening of the attachment fasteners could fix this.

• Cosmetic condition is decent overall for a bike of this age and mileage. But there are a few dings and scratches on the tank and elsewhere that will still be visible even after proper cleaning and detailing. The front forks show typical paint chipping. There is rust on the muffler heat shield and on some hardware. (The muffler and head pipes are stainless steel and therefore corrosion free.) The seat cover has a couple of small tears at the edges. The good news is that there are no signs the bike was ever crashed.

• The bike comes with one key that fits the ignition and the seat, but does not fit the fuel cap. (The cap is currently not locked!) There is no owner's manual, tool kit, or tire repair kit with this bike.

Certainly, there are plenty of reasons why this PROJECT BIKE is aptly labeled. But K-bikes of this vintage are well known for running strong for two-to-three hundred thousand miles and more! We believe that when this bike is adopted by a caring new owner who knows how to revive it, there's still lots of happy riding ahead.
