THE DUCATI PANIGALE V2 BAYLISS
Born to Celebrate
The new Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary celebrates one of the most successful riders of all time and the symbol of an entire community: Troy Bayliss. A special motorcycle, manufactured in a numbered series, the pure expression of Ducati sportsmanship and a tribute to a timeless passion.
Based on the Panigale V2, this version is made unique by the special livery, inspired by the 996 R on which Bayliss won his very first world championship title in 2001, and by the prestigious Öhlins components, that bring the track performance of the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary to a whole new level.
A unique Panigale. Twin cylinder. Baylisstic.
52 wins, 94 podiums and 3 World Superbike Championships: the Ducati-Bayliss pair was one of the most successful in the motorsports world. His name along with the racing performances of this Australian have made an indelible imprint in the heart of all the Ducatisti, and the perfect match between Ducati and “Baylisstic” has been rekindled to produce this celebration motorcycle, manufactured in a numbered series, whose graphic details and name were chosen working side by side.
Riding mode: never give up.
The Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary is powered by the 955 cm³ twin cylinder Superquadro engine. It delivers a maximum power of 155 hp at 10,750 rpm and maximum torque of 76.7 lb-ft at 9,000 rpm to guarantee full scale Ducati emotions and performance.
Compared to the Panigale V2, the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary is more than 6.5 lbs lighter, thanks to the use of a lithium-ion battery and the choice to adopt a single-seater configuration that explicitly recalls the look of the renowned racing bike.
- Injectors and Inlet Ducts — Like the Panigale V2, Performance enhancement largely stems from the new injectors (two per cylinder, one above and one below the butterfly, larger, and re-angled) and the new inlet ducts which, delivery rates remaining equal, lose less pressure than their predecessors, thus boosting intake efficiency. Oval throttle body dimensions remain unchanged with an equivalent diameter of 62 mm. Throttle bodies are controlled independently of each other via a full Ride by Wire system.
- Silencer — The new silencer has a new internal layout and, back pressure remaining equal, abates noise spikes more easily. This has led to a considerable reduction in silencer bulk. The new silencer also houses two larger, enhanced-impregnation catalytic converters.
- 90 degree Cylinders — On the Panigale V2 the engine acts as a stressed member of the frame. Set 90° apart, the cylinders are banked rearwards around the crankshaft axis, resulting in a 21° angle between front cylinder and horizontal plane. The two-cylinder heads and aluminum top covers feature a ribbed design to reduce mechanical noise. The crankcases are vacuum diecast using Vacural® technology to optimize weight saving and ensure consistent wall thickness and increased strength. Crankcase cover, clutch cover and sump are all made of diecast aluminum.
- Transmission — Transmission features a six-speed gearbox with the Ducati Quick Shift up/down EVO 2 system and an oil bathed clutch. The latter has an anti-patter and progressive self-servo mechanism that compresses the friction plates when under drive from the engine without any extra effort required from the rider to release the clutch.
Chassis and Ergonomics
The chassis is based on a monocoque frame, and the single-seater configuration explicitly recalls the look of the renowned racing bike.
- Suspension — To make the motorcycle even more effective in track riding, Ducati has chosen to equip the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary with Öhlins components. The NX30 front fork and TTX36 rear shock absorber guarantee maximum smoothness and are designed to achieve the best performance on the circuit, with a set-up that makes the bike more precise and offers the rider greater feeling and greater support in all riding phases. The steering damper, thanks to the adjustments it is equipped with, allows you to customize its calibration by adapting it to riding style and the characteristics of the track.
Electronics
The new electronics package raises active safety and dynamic control standards by adding the cornering function to the ABS, upgrading the quickshift so it now covers down-changes and including traction control, engine brake control and wheelie control.
All controls are incorporated as expected in the three Riding Modes (Race, Sport, Street) and can be adjusted via the new 4.3" color TFT dashboard. Featuring a user-friendly graphic interface browsing menus, adjusting settings, and identifying the selected Riding Mode could not be easier.
- ABS Bosch Cornering EVO — The ABS system on the Panigale V2 features the cornering function (which keeps the ABS working even with the bike leaned over) and has the same intervention logic and control as on the V4.
- Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2 — The new Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2 strategy is an offshoot of the Ducati Desmosedici GP18.
- Engine Brake Control (EBC) EVO — The EBC (Engine Brake Control) system was developed to help riders optimize bike stability under extreme turn-in conditions; it does so by balancing the forces applied to the rear tire under severe engine-braking conditions.
- Riding Mode — Riding Modes provide users with three different pre-set riding styles so that Panigale V2 performance can be adapted to rider, track/route, and weather conditions.
